Frustration with a person

Have you ever been frustrated with a person? It can be :

  • that the person said something that triggered you
  • that person is being annoying with non-stop questions
  • the person did something that you do not like

What would you do in that situation? From a youtube short video I saw today, the podcaster said, “If you’re ever frustrated with a person, close your eyes and imagine you are 80 years old, and this is the last time you are going to be with that person”.

I think this is a really good advice. I am ready to try it this week if it happens that someone irritates me, I think if I use this advice in that situation, the frustration will go away right after I see myself being 80 years old. I would see the situation from a more third person perspective point of view and appreciate just spending the time with the person. I would have more understand of where the person is coming from, due to thinking more maturely since I am 80 years old.

I believe this practice can prevent some actions I might take due to the frustration, of saying something that will hurt the person’s feeling due to lack of understanding, and disregard the person’s feeling due to narcissistic act of prioritizing temporary personal emotions, which in the worst case scenario, can result in a bad, or even traumatic experience in another person.

The practice of prioritizing temporary personal emotion becomes a habit when it is repeated over time. That will result in what some might call “Karma”, meaning what goes around comes around. When we reflect negative emotion to others, chances are, these negative emotion will come back to us through our interaction with others.

How did you reacts to situations where you are frustrated?

Will this post change your future reactions in such situations?
